WE ARE HIRING

Basic Description

Bilingual Wedding Film Producer & Director (English & Chinese)

Location: Edinburgh / London, with travel across the UK
Employment type: Full-time
Working hours: Up to 40 hours per week, including some weekends and evenings
Salary: £42,000-45,000 per year

About the role

We are seeking a bilingual Wedding Film Producer & Director to lead the creative and operational delivery of wedding film projects for both Chinese-speaking and English-speaking clients.

This is a senior, hands-on production role. The successful candidate will be responsible for the complete production process, including client consultation, creative development, pre-production planning, directing wedding-day filming, coordinating additional camera operators, post-production supervision and final quality control.

The role also involves operating cameras and editing footage. However, its principal responsibility is to lead each project creatively and operationally, ensuring that every film remains consistent with the visual style and production standards of Wild Acorn Films.

Mandarin Chinese is an essential requirement because the role regularly involves communicating with Chinese-speaking couples and family members, interpreting culturally specific wedding traditions, understanding speeches and vows, and converting bilingual client briefs into practical production plans. This is a language-based operational requirement and is not a nationality requirement.

Creative approach

The successful candidate must be able to work within the established our style:

  • Natural, observational and documentary-led wedding coverage

  • Cinematic composition without making the wedding feel staged

  • Strong emotional storytelling built around genuine interactions

  • Discreet filming during ceremonies and private moments

  • Clear and concise direction when posing or movement guidance is necessary

  • Accurate and natural skin tones

  • Controlled use of slow motion, transitions and visual effects

  • Clean dialogue, speeches and ambient sound

  • Music and editing choices that support the couple’s story rather than overpower it

  • Consistent visual storytelling across highlight films and longer documentary edits

The candidate must be able to reproduce the company’s existing style from reference films and creative briefs rather than applying an unrelated personal editing style to every project.

Main responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-production consultations in both Mandarin Chinese and English

  • Identify each couple’s priorities, family structure, cultural requirements and preferred visual style

  • Develop creative treatments, filming plans, schedules and shot priorities

  • Review wedding timelines and identify logistical or production risks

  • Direct the visual and narrative approach for each wedding film

  • Lead wedding-day video production as the principal filmmaker

  • Operate professional cinema cameras, gimbals, tripods and audio equipment

  • Direct and coordinate second shooters, assistants and freelance production staff

  • Organise multi-camera coverage of ceremonies, speeches and performances

  • Capture reliable audio using wireless microphones, external recorders and appropriate backup systems

  • Work professionally with photographers, wedding planners, venue staff and other suppliers

  • Manage footage ingestion, file naming, backups and project organisation

  • Edit cinematic highlight films and longer documentary wedding films

  • Carry out colour correction, colour grading, sound editing and audio mixing

  • Produce bilingual subtitles or on-screen text where required

  • Review films for technical accuracy, narrative consistency and brand quality

  • Manage reasonable client revisions and prepare final deliverables

  • Maintain production equipment and report technical issues

  • Help develop filming guidelines, editing templates and quality-control procedures for the wider production team

Essential requirements

  • Professional working proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English

  • At least three years of relevant experience in wedding filmmaking, documentary production, commercial video or a closely related field

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating complete wedding films as well as short highlight films

  • Experience taking creative responsibility for a project from initial briefing through to final delivery

  • Experience directing or coordinating other camera operators and production staff

  • Strong understanding of both Chinese and British wedding customs

  • Ability to communicate calmly and professionally with couples, families and suppliers

  • Advanced camera operation, composition, exposure and manual focus skills

  • Experience with Sony cinema and mirrorless camera systems, particularly the FX3 or comparable equipment

  • Practical experience filming in log formats such as S-Log3

  • Confident use of gimbals, tripods, monopods, wireless microphones and external audio recorders

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve

  • Strong colour-grading, sound-editing and narrative-editing skills

  • Ability to manage large quantities of footage securely and systematically

  • Ability to work independently and make time-sensitive production decisions

  • Availability for regular weekend and evening work

  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK, including occasional overnight stays
